Meet Kristin: IronPlate Founder and Entrepreneur

Get to know all about IronPlate Founder and Entrepreneur, Kristin Reisinger, and the history of IronPlate Studios and the future of IronPlate Online.

Q: What is your background in fitness?

KR: I got into fitness a really long time ago because my Dad was really into it. I learned a lot watching him get into great shape in his 50s and it was really inspiring. I remember thinking, "I wanna do that!" So I did. That's where it all began.

Q: How did IronPlate Studios start?

KR: IronPlate Studios began right after Superstorm Sandy because at that time, I was a single Mom with an infant, and I would drive to my client and it would take me forever with all the traffic since the PATH trains weren't running and everyone was driving to work. It was horrible. I was paying a sitter back at home to watch my daughter and I wouldn't even be able to get to my clients. I would cry in my car. A good friend said to me, "Why don't you open your own studio?" So I did. That was on Jan 2, 2013.

Q: How many years were the physical studios in operation?

KR: The Hoboken studio opened at the start of 2013 and then a little over 1 year later, I expanded to a larger space in the same building. A year after that I opened the Jersey City location. All in, Hoboken was around for almost 9 years and Jersey City about 6 years. Until COVID....

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about IronPlate Online and what you have in store for 2022?

KR: IronPlate Online began with Caitlin Harrington. She started working with me in the Fall 2013 until she had her first baby and moved back Upstate NY. We always knew we'd work together even after she left, so Caitlin spearheaded the Online Division of IronPlate. This was about 2 years before COVID. And thank God! We were already prepared to pivot when the pandemic hit.

Online has been doing really well since 2020, and for 2022 we plan to continue growing our online services incorporating a more holistic approach in order to broaden our client base and offer approaches and methods that are lasting. We feel that being able to offer services and education like yoga, yoga therapy, Ayurvedic practices and offering safer ways to exercise will improve longevity and is a better way to serve our clientele through a lifetime.

Q: Who inspires you?

KR: Anyone that listens to their inner voice and follows the beat of their own drum. I've also been blessed to have taken a 6 month course in Raja Yoga with Swami Karunananda at Yogaville in VA this past year and it was probably one of the best classes and experiences of my life.

Q: When you're not working or focusing on your business, what do you enjoy doing?

KR: I love yoga, training my Aussie Finn, renovating my home down the shore with my daughter, hanging w/ my husband, reading and cooking.
